Hibernation time

January 17, 2012

So, what with the passing of time and things like that, it has come to pass that Fighting Kites will be shortly going into hibernation for quite some time. With band members set for international adventures it is likely that the band in the current line up will not play for quite some time. So, we are putting on a hibernation gig with lots of our favourite bands that we have played with over the course of our gigging history. It is this Saturday, the 21st and will be at the Victoria in Dalston. Full details here. The line up included Nitkowski, Elks, Ex-Easter Island Head, Gigantes, Benjamin Shaw in his band formation and some chancer called Broken Shoulder. It is totally free to get in, and at this show you will finally get the chance to get hold of the long awaited debut album (nice timing, eh?) at an all time bargain price of £5. Please come along and say goodbye for the time being to us.

Fighting Kites/Broken Shoulder split out 10th October!

October 7, 2011

Finally we have made it to the release date of our split maxi-EP/album whatever you want to call it, on Audio Antihero records. It will be out on Monday but is available to order now in many places including amazon, rough trade, itunes, play and if you can’t wait till Monday, on bandcamp where you can get your download immediately and your CD will follow.
Exciting times for Fighting Kites as Cat Is Egg from the EP was played on Gideon Coe’s show on BBC 6 music this week. If you are fast you can listen again here, and hear him say some nice things about us. The world might be coming round to our point of view. To celebrate this, here is a video Luke made for Wojtek the Bear.
Finally, if you don’t trust the internet with your card details, you can pick up a copy at our launch which unconventionally is almost two weeks after the release date. Saturday 22nd of October at Ryans in Stoke Newington. There will be a two-tiered entry price so you can get in and buy the CD for a bargain price, or just come in if you don’t like recorded music.

Gigs and Session

September 5, 2011

Big movement in Fighting Kites circles. Gigs and a session.
1. Sunday 11th September – The White Lion, Watford with Wartgore Hellsnicker and Kid Cosmic. This gig is FREE!!! and apparently you can get to Watford on an Oyster card. We will be playing shortly after 5, so it doesn’t matter that it’s a Sunday and you have to work the next day.
2. Saturday 17th September – playing a session on the Hello Goodbye show on Resonance fm. If you are in the central London area you can hear this on your wireless radio. If not, you can easily tune in via the internet stream.
3. October 22nd – Ryans Bar, Stoke Newington. Fighting Kites playing with Broken Shoulder and someone else tbc to launch the lovely new CD on Audio Antihero. Incidentally, you can pre-order this item in the physical version from bandcamp, or Rough Trade, or in the digital form from itunes and The bandcamp will get you a digital version as well as a CD, so must be tempting.

More news soon!

August 21, 2011

Just a quick post to inform you that we have a new release coming soon(ish). Audio Antihero are putting out a Fighting Kites/Broken Shoulder split 2 EPs on on CD kind of thing. It should be out around the start of October. If you are desperate you can hear a couple of tracks from it here, where you can also preorder it. Expect a show around this time to force the promotional point home. More details when we know what they are. But in the mean time you should check out the Audio Antihero website and also enjoy this preview of the artwork.

New song for a good cause

March 20, 2011

Fighting Kites will be featured on a compilation released very very soon by Audio Antihero records in aid of the Japan appeal. Put together in a week in order to raise money for those in need, it will feature Carlos Mends Shoulder by Fighting Kites, a first taste of the debut album which should also be out soon. There are also a couple of Broken Shoulder tracks on there, one brand new one, recorded this week especially for the compilation. It will be available on download only from the Audio Antihero bandcamp for a minimum donation of £3.99, although I hope plenty of people will pay more than that, as 100% of the money is going to be split between the Japan Society, Red Cross, Shelterbox, Save The Children and the Japan Earthquake And Tsunami Relief Fund.

Gig tomorrow

February 20, 2011

Fighting Kites will be playing tomorrow, Monday the 21st February at the Macbeth on Hoxton Street. We are headlining! Have been wanting to play a show with this promoter Sweet Beans for a long time so it should be a cracker. Also only £3. Hope to see you there.

First post for a very long time but for once, plenty to say. First of all we are delighted to be putting on a night at Ryans Bar in Stoke Newington on the 13th November. We will be playing along with some of our most musical friends. It’s only £4 for 4 bands and playing on the night will be Fighting Kites, Elks, Ex Easter Island Head and Benjamin Shaw. Facebook event is here, but if you prefer to not gey your information from there, all you really need to know is it starts at 8.00, is at Ryans and will be a cracker.

Benjamin Shaw –

Also the album making process has been moving on nicely, and we now have everything recorded and the majority of the mixing done. Sounding lovely too. Watch this space for more details. Hopefully the next update will not take so long!
